Description
This s a very rare set of 4 Antique Sumida Gawa Cups and Saucers. These Cups measure 2 3/8″ tall and 2 5/8″ in diameter. The Saucers measure 4 1/2″ in diameter. Sumida Gawa Pottery is known for its bright colors, rich glazes, and three-dimensional relief figures of plants, people, and animals. Each piece is partially glazed with a two color flambe glaze on the top, and bisque on the bottom. Interiors are glazed. Each piece features raised figures or symbols from Japanese life. These Cups and Saucers are in very nice vintage condition with no chips or cracks. Pieces are not marked. Sumida Gawa Pottery was first created in 1890 solely for export to the West with production continuing up to the start of WWII. Sold as a set of 4 only.
